The Resonance Sessions

A Multidisciplinary Performance and Exhibition

We are Benny De Grove and Filip Verneert — two passionate artists who, in 2022, combined our artistic disciplines to create something both innovative and immersive. With Benny's expertise in photography and Filip's deep roots in music, we embarked on a shared vision: to weave sound and image into a new form of storytelling.

The Resonance Sessions Performance is the fruit of that collaboration — a captivating synergy where photography, live music, dance, and video are interwoven into a deeply moving, sensory performance. It is an invitation to experience resonance: not just between art forms, but between people.

The premiere will take place on October 11, 2025, at Cultuurhuis Merelbeke, and is accompanied by the photographic exhibition showcasing dance-inspired imagery. Each image contains a discreet QR code linking directly to a uniquely composed musical piece — deepening the connection between the visual and the auditory.

A Call for Resonance

At the heart of this project lies a philosophical pursuit: to awaken awareness of our need for resonance — for real connection — in an increasingly fragmented world. Inspired by the work of German sociologist and philosopher Hartmut Rosa, we explore the idea that a more harmonious society can only emerge through mutual understanding and genuine dialogue.

We live in an age of acceleration, where the pace of life overwhelms the individual. Rosa argues that resistance is futile — but not hopeless. Instead of fighting the tide, we must find anchors: in nature, in spirituality (broadly defined), and in the arts. These are the places where stillness can be found, and where we can once again hear each other.

The Resonance Sessions seeks to create such a space — a moment of pause, of awareness, and of shared humanity.

For Everyone — From Age 10 and Beyond

This project is for all people, regardless of background, belief, or origin. While layered with philosophical depth, it is designed to resonate with audiences aged 10 and up. The slam poetry — performed in English — ensures accessibility across linguistic borders, inviting as many as possible into the conversation.

The Exhibition

The accompanying exhibition is not merely a visual appendix — it is an essential part of the experience. Here, image and music are inseparably fused. Each photograph, born out of collaboration with dancers, holds within it the spirit of a live musical dialogue. During some of the shoots, Filip composed and performed music in real-time, responding intuitively to the dancer's movement, while Benny captured the visual resonance of that exchange.

The titles of each piece are deliberate — not solutions, but states of being. They serve as meditative cues, inviting the viewer-listener to engage on an emotional and introspective level.

Through embedded QR codes, visitors can access the music composed for each photograph — music that exists only in relation to the image, and vice versa.
